Target is My Medicine

Sorry for my absence over the last week – I was feeling totally uninspired because of the cold and then I actually came down with a cold and I have been sick as a dog since.  I am finally starting to feel normal today, and nothing helps with that like placing an online order with my favorite retailer, Target.  My friends and I joke that it is impossible to get out of Target without spending $100, and normally we’re right!  However, today I checked out for just under $100 thanks to a handy little 20% off sale they’re having right now.  See what I got for spring below!

Empties

Every once in a while, I thought I’d review the products that I have finished up recently. This works especially well because I subscribe to Birchbox and Ipsy, which ensures I have cute little packages to use up quickly and fit in a neat little frame. Obviously I am not the first person to think of reviewing empty products; in fact Eva Chen does a summary on her Instagram that is particularly well done. But we all have our own views, so for those of you interested in mine, here they are!

Whish Body Butter in Lavender ($24) // I got this body butter in my Birchbox, and I’m not usually one to spend a lot of money on body lotion, but this Lavender scent is amazing. So comforting when you get out of the shower at night.

Suki Exfoliate Foaming Cleanser ($32.95) // I have raved about this cleanser before here. Read this post, swoon, and purchase immediately.

L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Mascara ($5.89) // One of the classics! I usually get this one in Black Brown to have a softer look for daytime. It does a good job at feathering your lashes… it does what the name says and gives great volume!

Biore Deep Charcoal Cleanser ($6.49) // I bought a sample of this stuff at the drugstore when it came out and thought it would be pretty blah, but I actually really like it! I like to use it as more of a mask; I put it on in the shower and then go about the rest of my business and then wash it off before I get out. My face feels so clean when I’m done! I only use every other day to keep from drying out my face.

What do you think about these products? Have you tried any of them?

ClassPass

On January 2nd, I joined ClassPass. For those of you who haven’t heard of ClassPass, it’s a monthly membership that gives you access to studios all over your city for Pilates, Barre, Spinning, and Yoga classes, just to name a few. There are a couple of catches but they are relatively minor and I actually find them helpful. One is that you can’t go to more than three classes at a studio per month, in an effort to encourage participants to mix up their types of workouts and try new studios. Second is that you need to cancel 24 hours in advance or you get fined, which helps you avoid laziness striking the morning of. If something unexpected comes up, they will work with you.

ClassPass is in most major cities, but for those of you in Boston, here are some of my favorite studios. I encourage all of you to try them out!

One // Life in Synergy

Life in Synergy is one of my favorite studios in the city. The classes use concentrated movements to stretch and strengthen muscles. You won’t sweat much, and the first time I took this class, I thought it didn’t do much because I wasn’t drenched at the end. The next day, I woke up and could barely move, my muscles were so sore. This place will work your ass off and you don’t even realize it! The classes are fun and upbeat and the instructors are very encouraging.

Two // Velo-City

Velo-City is a spinning studio in a basement off an alley. Intimidating at first, but this place is the best spin workout I’ve ever been to. Their spin class in a dark room with neon lights is super hard, with great music and weights to make it a full body workout, and with enough of a gym atmosphere to not make you feel like you’re in a nightclub. You will leave exhausted and happy, trust me.

Three // Exhale

Exhale has two locations in the city: Back Bay and Battery Wharf. They offer Core Fusion Barre, Cardio, and Yoga classes. I took the Barre class the other day and my thighs were ridiculously sore the next morning. It’s a great workout and the studio is beautiful. It’s also a spa, so the locker rooms are gorgeous and you can also purchase messages, manicures, etc.

Four // Pursuit

Pursuit is another spin studio that I really like. It’s a little more laid back than Velo-City, but equally as tough of a workout. It’s mostly women and has a great can-do atmosphere. One of my firsts and still one of my faves.

If any of you are interested in ClassPass, you can sign up here. I would strongly recommend trying it!

Valentine’s Day Ensembles

No matter what your plans are for Valentine’s Day on Saturday, you should have a fun outfit for the festivities! Below are some ideas for every occasion. Ben and I are going out to dinner and I’m going to try my best to wear a cute dress and heels, but with the foot of snow we’re supposed to get on Saturday night, I might be resorting to snow boots instead!

Closet Cleanout

This weekend, Ben was gone all day Saturday skiing with a friend, so I invited my friend Christy over for some mimosas and a little Sex in the City-style closet cleaning. We went through all of my clothes and pared my closet down to only things I like, that fit, and that I wear regularly. You may have seen the massive pile on my Instagram, and that was only about 2/3 of it (Christy made out like a bandit).

Because I am considering myself somewhat of an organizational guru right now (I’m sure that will soon pass, but let’s enjoy it while it lasts), I’m going to impart some wisdom on you. Let’s discuss my tips for organizing your closet.

One // Get a little tipsy. You may think I’m joking, but I’m partially not. Having a couple drinks allowed me to be brutally honest with myself and admit that, no Jamie, you do not look good in that dress. However, do not make the mistake of getting too toasty, because then you will think everything looks great on you and you will never be able to part with anything!

Two // Decide what questions to ask yourself. For every item of clothing, you should be able to ask yourself the following questions: Do I love this? Do I wear it regularly? Does it fit me? If the answer to these questions is no, get rid of it.

Three // Have an organizational system. It doesn’t need to be anything fancy, just something to help you organize what you have left over. My personal system is using all the same type of hanger, all my clothes facing the same way, and organized by type of clothing (long-sleeved shirts, short-sleeved skirts, skirts, dress pants, etc.) My closet doesn’t look like a professional organized it, but it’s organized enough that I know where everything is and I can see all of my options clearly.

Four // Remember, they’re just clothes. Go easy on yourself. If you love it, keep it. If you don’t like it anymore, get rid of it. The world won’t end because you donated a shirt. Clearing out is cathartic, baby!

Contrary to what this picture implies, my walls are not bright yellow. Lighting gone awry.

Sale Alert!

WARNING: ITEMS ON SITE MAY BE CHEAPER THAN THEY APPEAR.

Okay, so I clearly find odd things funny, but I am pumped today because J.Crew is having a great sale in order to prepare for their Spring collections. Their Final Sale styles are 40-50% off, on top of the already insanely low marked down price.

I have been eyeing this turtleneck sweater on their site all winter, but I have so many sweaters and I couldn’t justify the $118.00 price tag. Jump to today, when I scored this sweater for $23.99. $23.99! Get out of here. With plenty of cold weather left for Boston, I think I’ll get my money’s worth. Check out this sale if there’s something you’ve been admiring!

Valentines for Men

We are coming up on Valentine’s Day next weekend and I’m sure a lot of you still have to go shopping! Ben and I don’t do gifts for Valentine’s Day, which of course makes me want to shop for him even more, so below are some of the things that I would get him (and have for other holidays)!

For Christmas, I got Ben a very similar waterproof speaker for us to bring to Florida, as well as a gray cuff link case. I have also gotten him Dallas Cowboys pint glasses (his favorite team). The map cuff links are next on my list; I want to get him maps of Boston!

I hope you were able to get some ideas and find something you liked! Let me know if you end up getting any of these!

San Fran Big Fan

Today I’m sharing more of our pictures from San Francisco!  I will try to get them wrapped up soon, but we have so many pictures!  This is such a beautiful city, and I’m missing the mild weather as we deal with another snowstorm in the Northeast.

Daily Distractions

I don’t know about you, but it is really easy for me to get distracted perusing all of the random goodness the Interwebs have to offer.  Below are some of my faves from this week.

One // This weatherman kills me when he plays along with a computer glitch.

Two // Totally using this cheat sheet to learn my camera in manual mode!  And along that line, getting some tips from two of my favorite sister bloggers, Merrick’s Art and Everyday Reading, on how to take your own photos with a tripod.  Excuse my quality while I learn!

Three // Have you seen Maroon 5’s new video?  I can’t imagine if this happened at my wedding.  Although let’s be real, my boyfriend would be like, “Should I know them?”

Four // Do any of you watch Scandal?  If you haven’t watched last night’s episode, DO NOT CLICK on this link.  Major spoiler alert.  If you have watched it, all I can say is… WOW.

Five // This is why I love living in Boston.  People here have such pride for their city.

Boston-Finish-Line

Have a great weekend!  I’m off to visit my friend Lizzy in DC for a girls’ weekend and to see my goddaughter!

The Day After the Storm

So I got up and went into the office this morning; even though I knew no one would be there, I just needed to get out of the house. I was going stir crazy! I wore the outfit below, but added snow boots (I didn’t want to wear them inside my apartment!). This sweater is huge and probably not the most flattering (I have a waist in there somewhere!), but it is so absurdly comfy that I don’t even care.

Also, for those of you who read my post on It’s a 10 Miracle Finishing Spray, this is what my hair looks like after I curl it with a regular 1″ barrel curling iron and spray the finishing spray.
